Farmers’ Market offers baskets for those in need
There’s something special about a farmers’ market. It may be that it makes one of life’s mundane tasks — food shopping — really pleasurable. It may be that it offers a connection to the foods we eat and the people that make and grow them. It could be the fresh air, the sense of community, the reminder of the growing season and of the earth’s goodness.
Morgan Wasserman grew up in Bedford. Almost every Tuesday afternoon last year, she visited the Bedford Farmers’ Market with her family. She appreciated the simple joys of a farmers’ market. To honor Morgan, who passed away last October, Bedford Farmers’ Market has created “Morgan’s Basket,” a program which will provide baskets of cheer to Bedford families or individuals who are experiencing difficult times for any reason. The baskets will be donated by Bedford Farmers’ Market Inc., and will be filled with market products.
Market organizers hope to deliver one basket each week throughout its season. Donations to defray the cost of additional Morgan’s Baskets are welcomed and would allow more baskets to be delivered. Names of recipients o the baskets will be kept confidential.
Bedford Farmers’ Market needs you to help make this program work. It is asking members of the community to let it know of anyone living in Bedford who might use some neighborly support through a Morgan’s Basket. Find one of the market volunteers at the market each Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at Riley Field on Nashua Road, or request a basket by visiting www.bedfordfarmersmarket.com/morgansbasket, or write a letter to Bedford Farmers’ Market, Inc., P.O. Box 10047, Bedford, NH 03110.
Be sure to include the name of the family or individual to whom the basket should be delivered, their address, telephone number, any known food allergies and any other information you may think helpful.
